Ajithkumar’s long-delayed film for Sivaji Productions, Asal was launched with style and glamour on Wednesday 8 April 2009 at 09h30. Who better to launch the film than Style Mannan Rajinikanth himself, who switched on the camera for the inaugural shot.
In his speech, Rajinikanth praised Ajithkumar’s acting ability, adding that no director has yet been able to extract his full potential. He politely declined to answer any political questions, especially direct questions about who he would be supporting in India’s General Elections.
Rajinikanth has always been very close to the family of the Late Sivaji Ganesan. Rajini used to call Sivaji “appa” and has since become very close to Prabhu and Ramkumar. The launch of Asal was held at their home, built by their legendary father.
Among the many dignatories present were Surya, Karthi, Sathyaraj, directors Vishnu Varadhan, K.Balachander, P.Vasu, Raja, Soundarya Rajinikanth and Dharani; lyricist Vairamuthu and the film’s music composer, Bharadhwaj. Asal will be the 50th film of Bharadhwaj.
Ajith will star opposite Sameera Reddy in this action adventure in which Prabhu will play a key guest role. Ajith sports a completely new look for this film. Ajith’s wardrobe in this film has been designed by Chennai-based designer Vivek Karunagaran.
In his address the film’s director, Charan, said that he has always worked well with Ajithkumar and that audiences can expect a lot more from Asal.
Asal is scheduled for release this Deepavali.
