India 363 for 5 (Yuvraj 117, Sehwag 116, Pathan 59*) beat Sri Lanka 216 (Sangakkara 83, Ojha 4-38) by 147 runs
India thrashed Sri Lanka by 147 runs on Tuesday in the third one-day international to take an unassailable 3-0 series lead, overshadowing off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan`s feat of equaling the world record for most ODI wickets.
Batting first after captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss, India scored 363-5 as Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag smashed blistering centuries and shared a 221-run stand.
Indian left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha then took 4-38 to trigger a Sri Lankan collapse which saw the last five wickets falling for 32 runs. The hosts were dismissed for 216 in 41.4 overs and India clinched the five-match series with their third successive win.
Stats Highlights
Sri Lanka’s 147-run loss is their biggest defeat at home in terms of runs.
Sri Lanka have now lost three consecutive bilateral ODI series at home. They have had an impressive record at home since 2000, winning 11 ODI competitions and losing five.
Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh, during their centuries, went past 1000 runs against Sri Lanka. Sachin Tendulkar tops the list for India’s highest-run getters against Sri Lanka with 2584 runs at 43.06.
India’s score of 363 is their second-highest against Sri Lanka, and also the second-highest in Sri Lanka.
Sehwag’s strike rate of 100.36 is now the second-highest for batsmen who’ve played more than 100 ODIs. Shahid Afridi leads the list with a strike rate of 110.99.
The 221-run stand between Sehwag and Yuvraj is the seventh-highest for the third wicket in ODIs, and the fourth-highest overall in Sri Lanka.
When Yuvraj Singh reached his century, he became the first Indian to do so against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka in close to ten years.
